Do You Think ‘irish’ Jokes Are Acceptable?

Filed in Category Irish Jokes

If homophobic and racist jokes are not acceptable, then why are Irish jokes allowed to slip through the censor’s net?

Ah, censors, bless their flinty little hears and cracked brain-pans.
Sure, jokes on the Irish are acceptable because we Irish are naturally superior and don’t take offense at the pathetic and jealous rantings of the lessers.
Now, Swedish jokes and Norwegian jokes (particularly of the Sven and Ollie variety) can be hurtful, so lay off those poor, bland, humorless Viks.
German jokes can be okay, but the Krauts won’t get them.
The French will hate you for not being French, so go ahead and tell the jokes, but they won’t laugh or change their opinion of you.
The Italians will laugh right along at Italian jokes. Jolly folk, the Eye-ties.
Spaniards … are there really Spanish jokes?
Oh, and English jokes are just dull. Which is pretty appropriate. If only there were a way to make jokes with bad teeth.
But to your original question … the Irish are saints and kings, but kindly with all, so go ahead and make your little jokes.

Because all jokes are picking on someone just have a laff. People always poke fun at other people, thats life. By the way did you hear the one about the Irish man that walked into the bar OUCH!!!!!!!

I’m irish and proud of it, live in germany now with the “krauts” as someone called it and don’t take offense at “irish” jokes… it’s probably because we’re not a minority group… there are millions of us (although not necessarily living in ireland) and we can laugh at ourselves because we are fighters….and because we know that such jokes are what they are… jokes, made to make u laugh..
and he who laughs last laughs longest! so go on try it, u might like it
    don’t take them personally… we know we’re great!!!! :)

because the irish have a sence of humour.
And if jokes where meant to be taken seriuosly, then they wouldnt be jokes. The real jokers though are the self obsessed ones that think its all not fair. there are people in all our(the world) cultures that the jokes are actually about,we all have a jester in our packs,so why get all worked up about it.

YOu could ask the same with regard to blonde jokes and scouse jokes it is all a form of predujice and being labelled straight away! Oh your blonde or Irish you must be dumb..e.t.c……none are really acceptable but no one really makes a big deal about it!!
i think they should all be banned!

So Paddy walks into the pub and says….
Look if we keep getting offended then how are we going to enjoy our life? If its true why not say it? I’m not saying that these jokes are all real about the people they place the joke on but lighten up. Should we have no jokes instead, since all jokes are insulting to something. Its part of life and you shouldn’t try to censor life.

What did St. Patrick say as he drove the snakes from Ireland?
“Are yis alright in the back lads?”
I think the Irish still have the ability, like the English do to laugh at themselves, without getting pissy about it.

I know many Irish people who you would not dare to mess with. It’s all in the context, and the intention of the joke. If someone’s likely to be offended by it, don’t say it.

    I know one!!
How do you tell who the Irishman is in the old-folks home?
The foam is blown off the top of the bed pan!
hey! Top o’ the mornin to ya! I’m Irish, so kiss my blarney stone!!
I don’t know if it’s racism. To me, racism would mean that one race, or culture, would get laughed at more than any other. I think as humans, we all get laughed at equally. I’d like to think so, anyway.
what is 2 miles long and has an I.Q. of 10? A St. Patty’s day parade!!
    ba da bum! (cymbal crash!)
    Erin Go Bragh!

Because The Irish are a Nation apart as they can laugh at themselves. ‘Laugh and the World Laughs at you and with you’ must be their motto !

For some reason, people living on islands are thought of as being uneducated or stupid. The Germans have jokes about people from Ost Freisland. The Dutch have jokes about the English. The English have jokes about the Irish and people from Hampshire have jokes about the Isle of Wight.
I know a lot of Irish people. They tend to tell Kerryman jokes (apart from the ones from Kerry, they tell Corkman jokes)

Irish jokes are acceptable, so are English, Scottish, Welsh etc etc.

  15. TrevnDi on October 16, 2009 9:39 am

    You’re jokin right?
Im sure the Irish have a good laugh at our expense and so does everyone else. Its just us English that like to lay down stupid laws, everyone can take a joke…the government being the biggest joke of all.

  16. Just Me on October 16, 2009 9:43 am

ALL jokes are acceptable……. they are jokes. If you don’t like them don’t laugh.
when we censor one thing you have to censor everything!
Where does it stop….. Next thing you know we aren’t allowed to fart in public without being arrested and charged with something.
If you think that a joke or comment is a verbal attack, then voice your outrage about it….. But they should have the right to voice their joke or opinion just as anyone should have the right to speak out against it…..
Have you heard the one about the three black Irish lesbians?

  17. musonic on October 16, 2009 9:51 am

The Irish tell jokes about themselves because they have a good sense of humour and like to laugh. I’m sure they enjoy telling English jokes too.
A Kerry man always replies to a question with a question, as anyone knows.
    Q. “How are you today?
    A “Why do you ask?”

  18. wrongjon on October 16, 2009 10:44 am

Sure to be sure. Top of the morning to ya.

  19. tina y on October 16, 2009 11:23 am

  20. Laura on October 16, 2009 11:24 am

I’m Irish and I dont get offended by them, cos when I hear a joke with the word Irish in it it automatically changes to English!hehe

  21. Rebecca on October 16, 2009 11:46 am

Maybe Irish people have a better sense of humor than some other groups. I’m half-Irish, and they don’t bother me.

  22. younglak on October 16, 2009 12:09 pm
