You have to know your audience, I think. In all honesty, some people think racist jokes can be funny. Sometimes the absurdity of thinking that people actually FEEL that way (the way the jokes imply) is funny in and of itself.
For example, in my circle of friends we’re always making fun of each others’ stereotypes. My ex-boyfriend for being black, my friend from college for being Jewish, my other roommate for being Catholic and Irish, etc. Sometimes stereotypes can be funny, in my opinion.
There’s a song in Avenue Q (a sesame-street-esque adult puppet show parody musical) called “Everyone’s a Little Bit Racist”.
I think that’s true for the most part. Just be careful who you’re talking to, most people WILL be offended. Saying these types of things in the presence of other people when you aren’t sure if they’ll be offended or not is socially irresponsible. Just know who you’re joking with.

if you are using a word considered to be derogatory by someone then to be politically correct you should not use that word. i am of italian heritage, i can refer to myself as a wop or dago but if someone else does so they are wrong. there is no way to use such words without someone in the group the word applies to taking offense
i suppose it is ok in a group that does not contain someone from the group that might take offense. knowing someone might take offense should be reason enough not to use the word. try developing your vocabulary so that you can express yourself without including words that are known to be offensive
yes we should all be more tolerant of what is said about us. but, we should also be more careful about what we say about others

I just watch who I tell jokes to.
I mean, I wouldn’t tell them kind of jokes to the type of person that I might be offending.
And you know if a person gets on your case about the “******” word, ask them this: “How many rap songs do you listen to that repeats the word ‘******’ and how many times do you sing along to it?”

It’s a personal decision. Black people use the term ‘*****’ to refer to others, and sometimes see it as a faux pas when white people use the term.
As for the word “kike”, I believe thats a term for a Jewish person, that’s really offensive to most.
So I would just avoid using either of them, simply to avoid conflict.
    Hope that helped!

Of course its alright to say those things in a jokingly manner. Also you should only joke about all of that with your friends or people you know wont take offense to it, unless its just a really good joke then spread it around.

I think its ok. If they can joke it about with eachother than everyone should. If nobody wants it said than nobody should say anything at all.

Depends on if it is acceptable within your small group of friends. Some peope however take offense to things. So you can always find out by telling them.

Only if you’re a minority. It’s not recommended if you’re white.

  12. denverlm on September 30, 2009 9:17 pm

My opinion – it’s just wrong, wrong wrong. Many people find these words very offensive.

  13. J98 on September 30, 2009 9:22 pm

Always wrong. Even if you are saying it around ppl that call themselves those things. You might slip being funny (or so you think) and really hurt someone. Better not to practice those words…

  14. Jall on September 30, 2009 10:18 pm

I think it’s always wrong. It bothers me to see the youth now a days throw around these words like it is ok.

It’s only wrong if you are into political correctness. Any free speech is a right guaranteed by the U.S. constitution.

  16. Lys on September 30, 2009 10:59 pm

I think it is always wrong. Only because it’s a stereotype and those are never funny.

  17. Informed on September 30, 2009 11:32 pm

As long as your jokes aren’t directed to ******* or kikes, then you’re good to go. Good Luck

  18. clarry on October 1, 2009 12:16 am

    Always wrong…

  19. hucklebe on October 1, 2009 12:30 am

It’s OK until someone knocks your azz out and then you will know it’s not OK.
    It’s really that simple.

  20. Nel G on October 1, 2009 1:08 am

  21. Sheree H on October 1, 2009 1:34 am

  22. Vareeabu on October 1, 2009 2:02 am

Ask the guy who used to play Kramer on Seinfeld.

  23. Gina on October 1, 2009 2:24 am

It’s always wrong and it will be hurtful to someone, even if they don’t speak up. So be smart.

  24. Dakota T on October 1, 2009 3:02 am
